Otsuka was founded in 1921 – a company that manufactured chemical raw materials. Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., which has become the core company of the Otsuka group, was founded in 1964 to develop original technologies and pharmaceutical products.
In an effort to introduce consumer-based products that complement our pharmaceutical legacy, we wished to introduce an offering that would help people to live healthy every day.
That led to the introduction of Pocari Sweat leading us into the nutraceutical business in the beverages category.
In addition to addressing health problems through pharmaceutical products, Otsuka Pharmaceuticals expanded their mission to global wellness with innovative food and beverage products which lead to the establishment of Otsuka Nutraceuticals.
